Our Project
The initial idea behind our project was a desire to improve career counselling services, collaborate closely, share and discuss ideas, experiences and activities. Furthermore, there was also the curiosity to get a deeper insight into counselling practice abroad, the possibility of discussing topics and activities with someone who knows the ropes. Although we live in different contexts or we might have slightly different mentality, knowing what works elsewhere is always a rich source of inspiration worth considering.
The participants of the Czech-Norwegian project were given an opportunity to explore what they are passionate about; some appreciated a different approach towards students, others valued a different mindset or education system. Collaborating on our project and striving for making career counselling more complex and beneficial to students was the main principle harbouring our work.
We do not consider career counselling as a one-time service. On the contrary, career counselling should back the whole educational process and reach even further, committing to a lifelong learning attitude. Quality career counselling should empower students, assist them when discovering and understanding their strenghts and weaknesses. Learning should be a thrilling process which students thrive on. Showing them coping strategies and developing a positive attitude towards the only constant – the change – is essential. Thus, more complex guidance services encompassing experiences which include self-awareness might enable them being more satisfied with their personal lives and professional careers.
We would be elated if we inspired other career counsellors in their work.
